Murakami Tea Garden
Mountain Area100-year tradition of tea production with a view of Mt. Fuji above a sea of clouds
Murakami Tea Garden is located in Yoshiwara on the hillside of a 350-meter high mountain. In the early morning, the tea fields, surrounding mountainscape, and distant Mt. Fuji take on an ethereal appearance as they are enveloped in a sea of clouds. This phenomenon is an essential part of the farm’s cultivation process as it provides natural shade for the tea trees, such as Kabuse-cha.
Visit Murakami’s tea shop and explore their locally grown teas. One of the farm owner's top recommendations is Zairai, which is cultivated from native varietal tea trees that are over 100 years old. This indigenous tea variety has grown naturally in Japan since ancient times and only has a domestic distribution volume of two percent. Peruse the shop’s collection of black teas, seasonal teas, Sencha, and Benifuuki, which help alleviate allergy symptoms! Be sure to contact the store in advance if you are interested in sampling the teas, which are characterized by their unique aroma and excellent balance of astringency and savory Umami.
Murakami Tea Garden’s chemical-free, organic farming works in harmony with the natural blessings of Yoshiwara and is steeped in rich experience and knowledge. The farm owners’ skill, technique, and passion for tea production have been passed down for generations, resulting in quality tea products that have been loved and will continue to be loved by people for years to come.
