Sakyoen

River Area

"The Hakone Hachiri can be crossed with horses, but the Oi River lies unpassable.” Steeped with history, this area is immortalized by these famous words from the local folk song, although the river is now passable using the Oigawa Railway.
Originating in the Edo Period and family run for 13 generations, Sakyoen is a tea farm located within Shizuoka Prefecture. The farm deals with all parts of the tea-making process, from picking and manufacturing to sales.
The farm offers various experiences tailored to the seasons, including drinking tea on the porch with friendly cats, factory tours, and riding the tea-picking machine!

  • 2 minutes by car from the Shimada/Kanaya Interchange on the Shin-Tomei Expressway
  • 2 minutes by car from Kadode Station on the Oigawa Railway
  • 10 minutes from JA Kanaya Station.

The Surroundings

River Area

The Oi River originates 3,000 meters high in the Southern Alps of Japan and runs through Shizuoka Prefecture from north to south. The Oi River basin is home to three vast green tea production areas, including Kawane, Shimada and Kanaya.
