The Sumata Gorge area in Shizuoka Prefecture is often described as one of the prefecture’s secret charms. Known for many stunning features, the whole area is a protected habitat for Japanese serow and so is popular for nature-watchers. 

One of the main attractions for hikers is the Suspension Bridge of Dreams, Yume no Tsuribashi in Japanese. This rope bridge is listed as one of the world's top ten suspension bridges and is especially gorgeous in autumn against the colored leaves. 

Sumatakyo Onsen is another attraction that is very popular with young women. The water’s smooth, yet thick consistency is believed to make skin more beautiful. 

To top things off, the Kawane area is also ranked as one of the two best places in Japan to command the beautiful starry sky. You may want to take the opportunity to enjoy a breathtaking starlit night!

The Oi River originates 3,000 meters high in the Southern Alps of Japan and runs through Shizuoka Prefecture from north to south. The Oi River basin is home to three vast green tea production areas, including Kawane, Shimada and Kanaya.
